Berta's first barrels used for ageing came from Canelli, Sicily, originally used for the production of Egg Marsala. It was the founding lady's idea to use these barrels for ageing grappa since the Egg Marsala rendered them unusable for producing any other wine. What a great racket. If only the boss' wife was as useful!

The ageing in marsala creates a silky smooth grappa with flavours you won't find elsewhere. There is some spiciness and a hint of aniseed to balance out sweeter flavours such as candied citrus and sultanas. 

This could just be the second best thing to come out of Sicily.
